PROFILE OF Philomena Gnanapragasam

Ms Philomena Gnanapragasam is Director of Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development. She holds a double degree in Psychology and Political Science from UK and Malaysia respectively. Prior to joining AIBD Philomena was Station Manager of Malaysia’s Pioneer English Radio Station, Traxxfm, Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).

Ms Philomena has more than three decades of experience in both radio and television programming. She was also Senior News Editor for Primetime television. She has been in Radio Management for over twelve years and was instrumental in rebranding the English radio station. Under her management Traxxfm won several international awards, the latest being the Blue Ribbon Award from World Health Oraganisation(WHO) in 2016. She was also key strategist in media planning for the 13th General Elections in Malaysia for RTM.

Philomena has vast experience working abroad particularly in DeutcheWelle,Germany in 1995 and in Radio Australia in 2003.She is also an accredited cross-cultural trainer from DeutcheWelle and has conducted media training in the Asia Pacific region.

Philomena sits as an industry expert in several universities and advises on the media curriculum for communication studies. She aims to inspire young people to take media to a different level and look into ways of empowering audiences.

Philomena has to date 15 international awards for radio and television.
